Celebrex Warning
The FDA is encouraging physicians to consider alternatives
to Celebrex for the treatment of arthritis pain. The warning comes
after results from a study conducted by the National Cancer Institute
indicated that Celebrex users were at a significantly greater risk
of suffering heart attacks and strokes.
Celebrex and Other Cox-2 Inhibitors
Celebrex is not the only arthritis drug to be associated
with serious cardiovascular side effects. Vioxx, another Cox-2 Inhibitor,
was recalled in September 2004 after a clinical study provided evidence
of serious heart risks.
Healthcare professionals had speculated as early as
2000 that Vioxx may be linked to increased risk of heart attacks
and strokes. Just two weeks after the Vioxx recall, Pfizer announced
a new study linked Bextra with similar side effectsWinder &
Haslam also is representing people injured by Vioxx
and Bextra.
